What can Mood Mend assist with?

Mood Mend aims to help those with mental health challenges, specifically mood disorders and anxiety, in a relatively stable state or those trying to maintain mental health achieve their personal and/or recovery goals.

Mood Mend also specializes in comorbidities and compounding issues like addiction, eating disorders, and trauma (particularly childhood trauma, neglect, physical, psychological, and sexual abuse or sexual trauma and/or incest survivorship) as well as men’s issues, women’s issues, queer issues, and racial Othering.

What kinds of services does Mood Mend provide?

Direct Service:

  • one-on-one peer support and mood disorders recovery coaching
  • support group facilitation for mental health agencies, long-term care facilities, and like organizations

Psychoeducation & Advocacy:

  • lunch & learn series for your workplace or educational institution on managing mental illness or maintaining mental health

What is mood disorders peer support and recovery coaching?

Peer support is a reciprocal exchange of knowledge, experience, emotional, social or practical help between two equals.

Mood disorders recovery coaches, unlike licensed counselors, are non-clinical and do not diagnose or treat mental health issues or addiction. They, instead, support any positive change, helping persons already diagnosed and in or having completed treatment to avoid relapse, build community support for recovery, or work on life goals such as relationships, work, education etc. Recovery coaching is action-oriented with an emphasis on improving present life and reaching goals for the future.

Recovery coaching is NOT psychotherapy and cannot replace psychiatry or psychotherapy as a front line treatment option.

Unlike most therapists, coaches do not address the past, do not work to heal trauma, and there is little emphasis on feelings. The emphasis is on honoring values and making principle-based decisions, creating a clear plan of action, and using current strengths to reach future goals. The coach provides accountability to help the client stay on track.
